Description | Problem: It is so inefficient to post the same message to everyone (around 40K people including UM students) through a mailbox. Furthermore, we are restricted with a limited number of messages to be stored in gmail. Simple calculation: 1. One typical email size = 500K 2. Amount of typical UM email received by each staff each day = 20 3. Amount of space taken for email from UM for each staff = 500Kb X 20 = 10 000Kb = 10 MB 4. The cumulative space for all staff = 40 000 X 10 MB = 400 000 MB 5. The cumulative space for 20 working days in a month = 400 000 X 20 = 8 000 000 MB = 8000 GB ?#$%&* ![]() Objective: 1. To understand and analyze problems related to posting information in Universiti Malaya 2. To implement a public notice board platform for the Universiti Malaya students and staff as well as the general public 3. To evaluate and test the public notice board platform implemented above The conceptual idea: A UM staff Mr A goes into the portal and writes messages to be posted in the virtual notice board. Each posting must have a reference email and contact number so that others who are interested would be able to respond to the message. Another UM staff member Mrs B goes into the portal to read messages posted for that day in the virtual notice board. She replies to one or two messages of the posting through her personal email. Another UM staff member Mr C goes into the portal to search for old posting he has missed. He could find all postings for the last 10 years. He thanked God for being able to do this because UM has got such a good facility. The impact to UM: UM will save a lot of space related to sending emails. This is a more sustainable green approach in dealing with storage and electricity usage in the UM. Potential Collaborator: PTM |
