Starting university life can be overwhelming and challenging due to various factors such as unfamiliar environment, relationship issues and academic stress. Therefore, my teammate, Jia Wen and I would like to develop a website known as Get to Know UM in helping the first-year students of University of Malaya to get accustomed to the university life. Our project objectives are to provide an all-in-one platform for UM first year students and introduce them to UM Moreover, we wish to connect the students, especially first year students. In order to elicit user requirements, an online survey was distributed to UM students. The respondents were mainly consisted of UM first year students and they were asked to provide opinions related to the common problems faced by them. Besides, we had reviewed several similar systems and identified their existing issues. After that, we conducted an analysis on the development approach to find out the most suitable technologies and programming language that can be used in this project. To enhance our system features, we also had several meetings with our supervisor, Dr Ong Sim Ying.  Additionally, we actively involved our stakeholders and got a lot of useful feedbacks from them. In this project, we implemented MERN stack for system development whereby the frontend application is developed by ReactJS whereas Express.js is used for backend services. We applied the Agile Scrum methodology due to its flexibility and compatibility with our project. When everything is considered, we decided to develop a website that can provides a lot of features which are forum, event, club, GPA calculator, leisure, food and cafe. On top of that, an admin portal is created for content management purpose.
