UMSU Admin, First Year and Second Year Students
Entering the university is an exciting experience accompanied by challenges
for all new university students. During the transition from high school to
university, new students are required to adapt to the transformations in terms
of their physical, mental, and social environment. This project aims to provide
a platform to assist new UM students to get acquainted with university life as
they enter UM. This platform consists of a web application that provides various
features such as information of clubs and events, leisure activities, cafe and
food, course reviews and so on.
There are two categories of
stakeholders for this project. Firstly, the first year UM students who will be
the primary target users of this system. Secondly, the representatives from
University of Malaya Students' Union (UMSU) who will play the role of admin to
manage the contents on the portal. A survey has been conducted among UM
students in order to study the common problems faced by the new students. The
result of the survey is then analysed to elicit the requirements for this
system.
The development methodology applied for this project is Agile Scrum. It
is an iterative and incremental model which allows fast delivery of product
within a short time frame. We practise Scrum in this project by setting up a
visual task board, planning the product backlog as well as the sprint backlog.
As of now, there are a total of 15 modules in this system: authentication
module, manage profile module, cafe and food module, forum module, review
course module, manage course module, manage forum module, manage cafe and food
module, leisure module, manage leisure module, club module, manage clubs
module, events module, manage events module, and GPA calculator module.
